Company fined for storing used tyres on building apron

One of five companies warned by the Planning Authority since the beginning of this year has been fined for continuing to use a building apron to store used tyres, in breach of the Planning (Composition of Offences) Regulations, 2018, according to the Department of Town and Country Planning.

The department said building aprons and landscaped areas were not intended for storage, as aprons provide access to premises and space for pedestrian movement.

Using these areas to store goods could disrupt pedestrian access, affect the layout and cleanliness of business premises, and undermine the area’s appearance. It could also increase the risk of mosquito breeding and fire hazards.

Companies and business owners generating used tyres were advised to manage the waste responsibly by providing suitable storage, such as cabinets or racks, and reviewing their operations to ensure public areas were not used for storage.

The compound fine for each offence is up to BND500, payable within seven days of the notice being issued.
