Company fined over indiscriminate dumping

The Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Temburong District Office, which conducted inspections at several areas around Pekan Bangar, issued a BND1,000 compound fine on a company for indiscriminately disposing of and dumping rubbish in an unauthorised area, an offence under the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30.

The offender was given seven days to settle the compound fine. The failure to settle the fine can result the company being prosecuted in court. Upon conviction, the offender may face a fine of not less than BND2,000 and not more than BND10,000.

For a second or subsequent offence, the penalty increases to a fine of not less than BND10,000 and not more than BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

The public and business owners are reminded not to take cleanliness issues lightly. The enforcement action forms part of the efforts by the Temburong District Office to encourage all to take greater responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and protecting the surrounding environment. – James Kon
