His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu‘izzaddin Waddaulah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, yesterday began an Official Visit to Australia by attending a Wreath Laying Ceremony, a Welcome to Country Ceremony, a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia Senator Penny Wong, a luncheon hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence of Australia Richard Marles, and a meeting with Governor-General of Australia Sam Mostyn.
WREATH LAYING CEREMONY
His Royal Highness attended the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
His Royal Highness was welcomed by Acting Director of the Australian War Memorial Wayne Hitches and Head of Military History Dr Karl James.
His Royal Highness then laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier at the memorial
His Royal Highness later toured the Second World War gallery and the Aircraft Hall at the memorial.
The Australian War Memorial houses a museum and archive commemorating the services of Australians who died in war or defence operations, as well as those who served during conflicts.
WELCOME TO COUNTRY CEREMONY
His Royal Highness then proceeded to Parliament House.
At the courtyard, Parliament House, His Royal Highness was welcomed by Richard Marles for the Welcome to Country Ceremony, which began with opening remarks by Aunty Serena Williams, an Elder.
This was followed by the smoking ceremony, an Aboriginal tradition that promotes the protection and well-being of participants.
MEETING WITH SENATOR PENNY WONG
The meeting with Senator Penny Wong was also held at Parliament House.
During the meeting, His Royal Highness stated that Australia is a trusted friend and partner under the Comprehensive Partnership in the areas of trade, defence, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
His Royal Highness, in a sabda, remarked that the commitment by both countries under the Joint Statement on Energy and Food Security would continue to ensure that bilateral cooperation remains resilient in addressing geopolitical challenges.
Senator Penny Wong also welcomed the Joint Statement and emphasised the importance of Brunei Darussalam as a key partner in ensuring the resilience of energy and food supply chains.
His Royal Highness welcomed more Australian investors to Brunei Darussalam and highlighted potential for collaborations through the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy 2040 and Brunei Vision 2035. Both sides also expressed satisfaction with their maritime cooperation, particularly capacity-building programmes.
LUNCHEON HOSTED BY RICHARD MARLES
His Royal Highness then attended a luncheon hosted by Richard Marles, held at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese took the opportunity to attend the luncheon to interact with His Royal Highness.
MEETING WITH SAM MOSTYN
In the afternoon, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended a meeting with Sam Mostyn at Government House in Canberra.
His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness were welcomed by Sam Mostyn, marking the first time His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness met with the Governor-General of Australia.
During the meeting, Sam Mostyn commended the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and extended her warmest congratulations on the upcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the accession of His Majesty to the throne in 2027.
Both sides welcomed the excellent bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of education and defence.
His Royal Highness also looked forward to welcoming more Australian tourists to visit Brunei during Visit Brunei Year 2027 towards further enhancing tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
After the call, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness, together with the Governor-General, travelled in a special vehicle to view kangaroos in the Government House area.
Before leaving Government House, His Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness were bidden farewell by Sam Mostyn.
