Death Penalty

A male Permanent Resident, Mohamad Khairulnizam bin Ali Noh was sentenced to death by the High Court on the 23rd of August 2025 after being convicted of several charges under the Criminal Penal Code, Chapter 22. The case was successfully resolved following a detailed investigation by the Special Investigation Unit, Criminal Investigation Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, RBPF in relation to the report of the disappearance of two local women in October 2017.

Through an integrated investigation, RBPF managed to link the suspect to the murder of both victims, taking valuables belonging to the victims, and the separate disposal of the bodies in the Bukit Panggal, Tutong and Kampung Dadap, Kilanas areas. Further investigation also revealed that the day before the incident, the suspect, who was then 26 years old and identified as a drug abuser, had stabbed a local Chinese man who had given him a lift to Kampung Batu Bersurat, causing serious injuries but the victim was successfully rescued.

The conviction and sentence confirms the effectiveness of the intensive investigation conducted by the RBPF, including the initial investigation to find the victims, obtaining evidence such as physical and forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements, in bringing the offender to justice. The RBPF emphasises that any serious crime, especially those involving loss of life, will always be taken seriously and professionally in accordance with the laws of Brunei Darussalam. The RBPF also reminds the public that drug abuse not only ruins lives, but can also be a risk factor for serious crimes that affect the safety of the community.
