A total 15 Chinese teachers from eight local Chinese schools yesterday received recognition of their dedication and long services in teaching at a reception hosted by The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Brunei Darussalam at a restaurant in Kampong Jerudong yesterday.
Mak Li Ting, Ho Siew Shia and Elaine Wong Wen from Chung Hwa Middle School BSB with Chong Kiu Kian of Chung Hua Middle School, KB and Chong Jia En of Chung Ching Middle School, Seria received certificate for five years of service.
Seven teachers who received the certificates for 10 years of service and also USD120 each were King Sing Eeek, Ting Fang Ting and Hana Lim Hui Yaw Binti Abdul Mateen from Chung Hwa Middle School BSB, Pang Yen Ping from Chung Hua Middle School, KB, Crystal Chan Yunn Ru and Jee Mee Cheng from Chung Ching Middle School, Seria as well as Koh Pey Tsy from Chung Hwa School Tutong.
Philip Wong Meng Liang from Chung Hua Middle School, KB is the only teacher to have received a certificate for 20 years of service and USD180, while Ngau Mee Shing from Chung Hua Middle School, KB is the only recipient for a certificate for 40 years of service and USD350.Ngau Mee Shing in her acceptance speech shared her passion for teachings.
She said, “I feel very honoured and deeply moved by the award of the Long-term Service Award in recognition of for 40 years of work in the field of education. Forty years ago, after graduating from Chung Hua Middle School, KB, I chose to stay to serve in my school.”
She recalled, “I started as an assistant teacher, then progressed to assistant principal and eventually became the head of the kindergarten. Over the past 40 years, although my roles and responsibilities have changed, my passion and commitment to education have never wavered.
“For me, Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait, is not just my workplace; it is my second home and the place where I have grown and gained invaluable experience. Over these 40 years, I have been honoured to accompany and witness the growth of many children.”
She added, “Some of them started their journey here in kindergarten, and I watched them progress through primary and secondary school, graduate, enter adulthood and eventually become parents themselves. Years later, they returned to the school with their own children to enroll them in kindergarten.
“Watching generation after generation of children growing up here, I deeply felt that education is a constant companionship, and Chinese language education is a persistence passed down from generation to generation.”
“Witnessing the Chinese language continues to flourish in the country has made me feel that the sacrifices I have made over the past 40 years have truly been worthwhile. Today’s honour does not belong to me alone. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Board of Directors, principal and colleagues of Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait, who have always supported and encouraged me throughout my journey.”
She expressed, “I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to my former teachers and senior colleagues who guided and supported me along the way, as well as to all the students and parents who have been part of the Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait family. I would like to also thank TECO in Brunei Darussalam and Taiwan’s Overseas Community Affairs Council.”
