Digital break encourages return to Sunnah

The importance of balancing technology use with the practice of the Sunnah, as well as the need to value and make effective use of time was highlighted by Assistant Registrar at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Faculty of Arabic Language Dr Muhammad Yadiy bin Haji Mat Yassin.

He said this in a religious talk ‘Living the Sunnah in a Digital World’ as part of the Digital Break & Reset (Sunnah Edition) programme, organised by the Al-Qudwah Group Session 2025/2026 of UNISSA, in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul celebration.

The programme, bringing together 30 male and female students and 20 Al-Qudwah committee members, aimed to raise awareness on balanced and responsible technology use while encouraging participants to embrace the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Participants voluntarily handed over their smartphones to take a break from gadgets and focus on more meaningful activities. The programme also serves as a guide in managing time, strengthening their relationship with Allah the Almighty.

Participants also joined group reflection workshops and the Seerah Storytelling Challenge, where they read, discussed and creatively presented stories of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions. Other activities included performing the Dhuha prayer, congregational Zohor prayer, qailulah (midday rest), preparation of talbina, and a basic archery workshop.

Deputy Director of the Centre for Knowledge and Language Development Dr Hajah Ummi Fa’izah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, who is also Adviser to the UNISSA Al-Qudwah Group was also present.
