Digital platform strengthens access to Islamic information

State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned said the world is moving rapidly, driven by a wave of digital revolution that is no longer an option but has become a necessity.

“For a religious institution such as the State Mufti Department, the responsibility of delivering legal guidance, fatwas and authentic Islamic understanding has become an urgent obligation,” he said during the launch and inauguration of the department’s updated website at the foyer of the Darulifta Building yesterday.

He said the department’s transition into the digital era through the launch of its updated website represented a strategic and innovative step, reflecting its commitment to breaking through conventional boundaries and making religious information more accessible at people’s fingertips. “Good content without an effective means of delivery will be difficult to reach, while an up-to-date website or channel without useful and substantial knowledge is also of little value.”

He explained that the updated website represented a strategic step towards strengthening the digital delivery of Islamic information, services and understanding.

At the same time, he stressed that the State Mufti Department would never set aside the tradition of written scholarship despite advances in technology.

“As someone who spends considerable time in writing and research, I see the task of writing as more than merely a routine job. Writing religious books or scholarly treatises is a great responsibility,” he said.

He stressed that through writing, understanding is conveyed, questions from the community are addressed and, most importantly, honest and authentic reference materials are preserved for generations to come.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Administration at the State Mufti Department and Chairman of the organising committee Haji Saiful Nizam bin Haji Sulaiman said the development of the new official website was an initiative to further enhance the quality of services and dissemination of Islamic information through current technology.

The upgraded website features various innovative and user-friendly functions, with accessibility and interactivity among the key focuses of its digital transformation.

It is designed to make it easier for the public to access the department’s official fatwas and Irsyad Hukum publications, videos and other Islamic materials and information from anywhere. The updated design also allows optimal display across various devices, including computers, smartphones and tablets.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Istinbat Officer Haji Jakaria bin Haji Hitam.
