Donations presented at cultural celebration

Beyond cultural festivities, the Malayali Association (MA) of Brunei Darussalam continued its commitment to community service through MA Charity, reflecting the values of compassion, generosity, and social responsibility associated with the spirit of Onam.

A donation was presented to SMARTER Brunei in support of its efforts to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism, received by President of SMARTER Pengiran Zamri bin Pengiran Haji Bujang.

Another donation was presented to Tabong Amal – Anak-Anak Yatim Daerah Belait in support of orphaned children in the Belait District, received by Penghulu Mukim Seria Mohd Zairul Halfi bin Talib.

The presentations took place as the association celebrated MA Onam 2026 at Pusat Insani, Seria, bringing together nearly 800 attendees for an evening that celebrated Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, strengthened community bonds, and embraced the spirit of giving. The contributions reaffirm the association’s commitment to giving back to the community and ensuring that the spirit of Onam extends beyond celebration to meaningful acts of kindness and service.

High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Shri Ramu Abbagani was the guest of honour.

The gathering brought together members of the Malayali and Indian community, supporters, and community representatives, including penghulus, village head, and heads of Indian associations.

The evening’s highlight was a four-and-a-half-hour cultural programme featuring over 100 performers across a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary presentations.

Guests were also treated to Ona Sadya, Kerala’s traditional vegetarian feast.
