The Dream Boat Sculpture, a gift from Nanjing to Brunei Darussalam symbolising the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries, was officially launched yesterday at the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Museum in Kota Batu.
Officiating the ceremony were Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman; Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha; and Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and Deputy Mayor of the Nanjing Municipal People’s Government Xu Feng.
The contemporary sculpture represents the close friendship, cooperation and cultural exchanges between Brunei Darussalam and China, while reflecting the shared aspiration of both countries to further strengthen mutual understanding and people-to-people ties.
The Dream Boat Sculpture also commemorates the 15th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Bandar Seri Begawan and Nanjing, highlighting the two cities’ commitment to deepening friendship and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the 35th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Brunei Darussalam and China, the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of Sister-City Relations between Bandar Seri Begawan and Nanjing, as well as the 80th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Also in attendance were Legislative Council members, Ambassador-Designate of China to Brunei Darussalam Chen Shaochun, members of the diplomatic corps and senior government officials. – James Kon
