EGC connects local businesses with upcoming industry contracts

More than 1,000 registrants and over 40 participating organisations have come together at Enterprise Growth Connect (EGC) 2026 to help Bruneian businesses identify procurement opportunities and prepare to compete for industry contracts.

Organised by the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), the two-day event aims to strengthen local participation in major industry supply chains through earlier access to information on upcoming projects, supplier requirements and business opportunities.

Held under the theme “Advancing Capabilities. Unlocking Opportunities”, EGC 2026 features 20 Opportunity Outlook sessions, business matching, advisory clinics and discussions on supplier readiness.

The first day was officiated by Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Deputy Chairman of BEDB Datin Seri Paduka Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei, Wednesday.

The programme covered opportunities across food, services, information and communications technology, tourism, maritime and construction.

In her keynote address, Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Tutiaty said economic growth must translate into stronger local capabilities and greater opportunities for Bruneian enterprises to participate in industry supply chains.

She said In-Country Value (ICV) was not simply about increasing the number of local suppliers, but developing competitive companies capable of meeting industry standards and undertaking higher-value work.

“As these industries grow, we must ensure that Bruneian enterprises are not merely observers of economic diversification, but active participants in the supply chains and opportunities it creates,” she said.

Acting BEDB Chief Executive Officer Daniel Leong Nyuk Ming said businesses needed more than awareness of available opportunities to secure contracts.

“Knowing about an opportunity is only the first step. Businesses must also have the capabilities to compete and deliver, enabling more local businesses to participate in higher-value opportunities,” he said.

Building on its inaugural edition in 2025, which featured more than 140 business opportunities involving 25 partners, EGC has expanded into a two-day programme this year.

Held under the theme “Advancing Capabilities. Unlocking Opportunities”, EGC 2026 features 20 Opportunity Outlook sessions, business matching, advisory clinics and discussions on supplier readiness.

The previous event also saw contracts signed between industry partners and Brunei-based service providers.

The programme continues Thursday at Pusat Insani in Seria, focusing on upstream and downstream oil and gas opportunities in collaboration with the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam.

Beyond the event, BEDB will work with industry partners to identify gaps in supplier capabilities, facilitate business connections and pursue targeted vendor development initiatives.

Local businesses can also use BEDB’s DARe LINKS platform to access procurement opportunities and connect with potential clients.

Through these efforts, BEDB aims to help local enterprises strengthen their competitiveness, secure contracts and contribute more to Brunei Darussalam’s economic diversification.
