The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) officially commenced the first round of on-site sessions for the AFC Certificate in Football Administration and Management (ACFAM) Hybrid Programme on Monday.
Developed by the AFC Academic Centre of Excellence (AFC ACE), the programme began its online learning phase on August 17, 2026 and is scheduled to conclude on December 9, 2026. A total of 29 participants, comprising representatives of FABD Congress members and personnel from the FABD Secretariat, are taking part.
The three rounds of on-site sessions are being led by AFC ACE lecturers and guest speakers, with AFC representatives travelling to Brunei Darussalam for each round to support the programme’s delivery and engage directly with participants.
Speaking at the opening, Senior Manager of the AFC Academic Centre of Excellence Asel Omuralieva highlighted the accessibility of the hybrid format, which enables participants to continue fulfilling their professional responsibilities whilst completing the online and in-person components.
She also noted that AFC ACE programmes are fully subsidised by the AFC, reflecting the Confederation’s commitment to making quality education accessible across the Asian football community, while encouraging participants to engage actively, share their experiences, and make full use of the expertise of the lecturers and their peers.
Throughout the programme, participants will cover core areas including football governance, leadership, strategic management, financial and operational management, human resources, sports law, media and communications, and income generation.
In his opening remarks, FABD Acting General Secretary Ishafie Iszuaddin expressed the association’s appreciation to the AFC, particularly its Academic Centre of Excellence, for arranging the hybrid programme in Brunei Darussalam following FABD’s request.
He emphasised that football development extends beyond activities on the pitch and requires strong administration, sound governance, effective management, capable leadership, and good communication.
He added that the programme is not solely about obtaining a certificate but, more importantly, about acquiring practical knowledge and competencies that can be applied directly to football administration in Brunei Darussalam.
As part of the certification process, participants are required to complete examinations and assessments designed to evaluate their understanding and application of the subjects covered.
The programme was initiated by the FABD Executive Committee as part of its continued efforts to strengthen the association and enhance its administrative capabilities.
The initiative reflects FABD’s commitment to investing in its people, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting greater professionalism across the national football ecosystem, while providing a platform for participants across the football community to exchange knowledge, enhance collaboration, and contribute collectively to the advancement of the sport.
