Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) extricated an unconscious man trapped beneath a vehicle after it was involved in a self-accident at Bukit Sawat on Wednesday.

The FRD received an emergency call of a road traffic accident along Jalan Kandul at around midday.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that a four-wheel-drive vehicle had been involved in a self-accident and had veered off the road into a bush area. The male driver was found unconscious and trapped beneath the overturned vehicle.

Firefighters launched a rescue operation using the winch mounted on the WRL/40 fire appliance to lift the vehicle. The victim was extricated within 15 minutes and was handed over to the Royal Brunei Police Force for further action.

Meanwhile, a male passenger managed to free himself from the vehicle before the firefighters arrived. He was handed over to paramedics and transported to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait for medical treatment.

A team of six firefighters, led by Deputy Station Officer Mohd Said bin Abdullah together with two fire engines from Sungai Liang Fire Station, were deployed to the scene.

The FRD advised the public to exercise caution while driving, particularly along isolated or challenging roads as well as to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to safeguard their safety and that of other road users.
