Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, the guest of honour, officiated the 2026 Live Flowers and Art of landscape Exhibition at Taman Rekreasi Menteri Besar, Berakas yesterday.
Organised by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation, Ministry of Development, with support from the Women’s Council Brunei for the second consecutive year, the event showcases a variety of creative landscaping designs, floral displays, ornamental plants and engaging experiences for visitors. Following the launch, the minister had a tour of the themed gardens and special exhibitions showcasing plant selection and arrangement techniques suited to different sites and design concepts.
Adding to this year’s edition, several new landscaping elements and landscape lighting systems have been introduced to enhance the ambience of the gardens at night. Some of the landscaping developed this year will also remain as permanent features.
Also in attendance were the minister’s spouse Datin Fadzlin binti Hashim and Deputy Minister of Development Datin Seri Paduka Dr Dayang Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak.
Meanwhile, fresh local fruits and vegetables as well as products are on display at the Fruit Festival 2026 at the Pasar Kitani Weekend Market, Rimba Agribusiness Centre in Kampong Rimba, starting yesterday. The annual event, organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is held in conjunction with the ongoing local fruit season. This year’s festival carries the theme ‘Local Fruits, First Choice, Our Shared Pride’.
Some 60 local farmers and producers from all four districts are participating in the event. In addition to a wide variety of fresh local fruits, visitors can also explore various ornamental plants and enjoy food and beverages from food trucks stationed at the market grounds. A range of activities has also been lined up to further enliven the two-day event. – James Kon
