Firefighters successfully brought two separate forest fires under control in separate incidents last Friday as weather conditions across Brunei Darussalam are forecast to remain hot and dry with minimal rainfall activity through the first week of September 2026.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), a forest fire occurred at around 10.33am in the area of the Hassanal Bolkiah Highway.
After receiving a report of the incident, three fire engines from Berakas Fire Station and the Women’s Operation Unit Fire Station, along with 15 firefighters, were immediately deployed to the scene. The operation was led by Assistant Station Officer Tonny bin Tanda.
Upon arrival, firefighters found large patches of fire burning across the affected area, which was estimated to cover approximately five hectares of government land. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Station Commander of Berakas Fire Station Superintendent of Fire and Rescue Pengiran Haji Ali Abd Rahman bin Pengiran Haji Halus and Station Commander of the Women’s Operation Unit Fire Station Fire Officer Rosita binti Haji Aman were also present.
Meanwhile, another forest fire was reported on the same day at 9.05pm in the area of Tungku Beach.
A total of three fire engines from Rimba Fire Station and Berakas Fire Station, along with 20 firefighters, were deployed to the scene. The operation was led by Assistant Station Officer Pengiran Hassanal bin Pengiran Haji Mat Jair.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a large fire that had spread across the area. The affected area was estimated to cover approximately four hectares of government land. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The public is reminded to remain vigilant and refrain from open burning activities, particularly during hot and dry weather conditions, to reduce the risk of forest fires.
