Four Bruneian chess players earn FIDE titles

Four Bruneian chess players have earned internationally recognised titles from the World Chess Federation (FIDE), marking a milestone for the country’s chess development, according to a press release from the Brunei Chess Federation.

The titles were awarded following the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad, held from September 15 to 28 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Muhammad Ahsanuddien bin Badarudin and Md Danish Zaqwan Humaidi Md Hadi earned the Candidate Master (CM) title as members of Brunei’s Open team, captained by FIDE Master (FM) Yee Soon Wei.

Meanwhile, Aqilah Adawiyah binti Mohammad Reduan and Zati Izni Fazreena binti Hj Mohd Hussin earned the Woman Candidate Master (WCM) title as members of Brunei’s Women’s team, captained by FM Muhammad Aliuddin bin Hj Azahari.

The Olympiad brought together more than 200 national teams, with host Uzbekistan winning the Open section and China claiming the Women’s section.

The four titles represent a significant achievement for Brunei chess and further strengthen the country’s presence on the international chess stage.
