Girl guides hold Khatam Al-Quran ceremony

The Brunei Darussalam Girl Guides Association (PPPBD) held its annual Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at the PPPBD headquarters in Anggrek Desa, in conjunction with the birthday celebration of Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam.

The programme began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar, Selawat Tafrijiyyah, the Doa before the recitation of Al-Quran and Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Young Leaders Commissioner of PPPBD Dr Mariam binti Haji Abdul Rahman.

This was followed by the recitation of Takhtim by the Khatam Al-Quran participants, led by leader at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Arabic School Alas Sarirah @ Nur Syahirah Az Zahra binti Awang Sulaiman, and leader at Belait Arabic School Siti Sahirah binti Sahali.

The Doa Khatam Al-Quran was led by Dr Mariam, while Doa Selamat was led by Spiritual Commissioner of PPPBD Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abd Ghani.

The ceremony also included a Doa Tahlil dedicated to Al-Marhumah Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah, led by Hajah Fatimah.

The ceremony aimed to commemorate Her Majesty’s birthday while fostering a culture of reading, understanding and deepening knowledge of Al-Quran among association members, as well as nurturing their spiritual development. It also seeks to encourage members to strengthen their relationship with Al-Quran as a comprehensive guide for life.

Three groups comprising members of the association’s Executive Committee, adult leaders, young leaders, Ranger Guides and Girl Guides completed recitations of all 30 juzuk of Al-Quran. Members participating in the association’s Project Pencinta Kalam Allah also took part, having individually completed the recitation of all 30 juzuk.

Life Vice-Presidents of PPPBD Datin Paduka Hajah Zaharah binti Haji Idris and Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Mohd Ali; Vice-President of PPPBD Hajah Viviyanti binti Haji Md Ali; and Chief Commissioner of PPPBD Norazrina binti Haji Sarbini were present.

PPPBD was officially established on February 1, 1951, following the approval of its constitution by the Girl Guides Association’s Imperial Headquarters in London. It became an associate member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on July 26, 1987.

With the aim of empowering young women and girls, PPPBD focuses on supporting the personal growth and character development of its members from an early age.

As a national organisation, it also plays a role in preserving and promoting Brunei’s cultural traditions while adapting to international standards set by WAGGGS.

These efforts are supported by the active participation of its members and the patronage of Her Majesty, the association’s Royal Patron.
