Air quality remained at moderate levels across all four districts Saturday morning, with Belait recording the highest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading of 74.
As of 9am Saturday, Temburong recorded a PSI of 68, while Tutong and Brunei-Muara recorded readings of 59 and 58 respectively.
The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), Ministry of Development, said air quality reporting has been enhanced since September 1 through the incorporation of PM2.5 concentrations into the PSI.
PM2.5 refers to fine particulate matter measuring less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter. The particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
JASTRe will continue monitoring air quality nationwide and provide PSI updates five times daily at 7am, 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm throughout the hazy period.
A PSI reading below 50 indicates good air quality, while readings of 51-100 are classified as moderate. Readings of 101-200 are unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
The Ministry of Health advised that outdoor activities may be carried out as usual when PSI readings are within the moderate range.
However, children, pregnant women and older persons are advised to reduce strenuous or prolonged outdoor physical activity, while individuals with heart or lung conditions should limit such activities.
