Two Timorese patients successfully undergo cardiac procedures at Gleneagles JPMC

Gleneagles JPMC has strengthened its regional healthcare partnership with the government of Timor-Leste after two male Timorese patients successfully underwent cardiac procedures at the hospital in July 2026.

The patients were referred for treatment under the healthcare cooperation between the government of Timor-Leste and Gleneagles JPMC, through the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Brunei Darussalam, represented by Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Brunei Darussalam Abel Guterres.

Orlando Da Costa Ximenes,  58, underwent a combined aortic valve replacement and ascending aorta replacement, while Quintiliano Noronha, 41, underwent an aortic valve replacement.

Speaking in an interview, Noronha became emotional as he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the governments of Timor-Leste and Brunei Darussalam, Gleneagles JPMC, and the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Brunei Darussalam for giving him the opportunity to receive treatment in Brunei.

“We are very grateful for the opportunity to receive treatment here. I would also like to thank the hospital’s chief executive officer (CEO), doctors and nurses for all the care and services they have provided us,” he said.

He added, “If we were still in Timor-Leste, I am not sure what our situation would be like today. The facilities here are very complete and of a high standard, while the treatment and medical services have also been excellent.”

Noronha, who lives with his wife and operates a food kiosk in Timor-Leste described his treatment at Gleneagles JPMC as a life-changing experience.

“We are truly grateful to have received treatment at Gleneagles JPMC. This has been a life-changing procedure for us. I hope the continued cooperation between the two governments in the healthcare sector will enable more people from Timor-Leste to receive the treatment they need in Brunei,” he said.

The procedures were carried out by the cardiothoracic surgical team led by Deputy Director of Cardiac Surgery and Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Gleneagles JPMC Pengiran Dr Md Nadzir bin Pengiran Juanda.

Both patients are now in stable conditions and are expected to return home soon. This initiative underscores the growing partnership between the government of Timor-Leste and Gleneagles JPMC in providing world-class healthcare to regional neighbours.

The successful outcomes of these procedures reflect the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence and its role as a trusted healthcare institution.

CEO of Gleneagles JPMC Dr Peter Tay conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the government of Timor-Leste for choosing Gleneagles JPMC as their trusted partner in performing the patients’ procedures.

“We hope this partnership would open up further referrals from Timor-Leste for cardiac related treatment and procedures. Their recoveries demonstrate the skill and dedication of our cardiothoracic team, as well as the support system we have in place for our patients,” he said. “We are truly proud to have been part of their cardiac care journey and remain committed to delivering exceptional healthcare to all. I wish them a safe trip home and continued good health,” said Dr Peter Tay.

Ambassador Abel Guterres expressed great pride and gratitude to witness the first group of Timorese patients successfully receiving cardiac care.

“I sincerely thank the management, doctors, nurses and medical team for their professionalism, dedication and care,” he said.
