His Majesty will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders' Meeting, AELM

 

 


His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders' Meeting, AELM, that will be held on 31st of October to 1st of November 2025 in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea.

 

The Republic of Korea is the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for the year 2025, carrying the theme 'Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper'. The APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) serves as the highlight of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) and marks the conclusion of the Republic of Korea's term as APEC host. APEC was established in 1989 with the aim of fostering sustainable economic growth and strengthening economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region. Through close cooperation among regional economies, APEC strives to promote free, open, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent and predictable trade and investment environment.

 

APEC initially comprised 12 founding economies and has since expanded to 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific region namely Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Republic of the Philippines, the Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Viet Nam. Before this, the Republic of Korea had hosted APEC in 2005, during which the AELM was held in Busan.
