On the 30th of September 2025, Captain Muhammad Hanis bin Awang Masri, was preferred a holding charge of murder under section 302 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, in court before the Honourable Magistrate Abdul 'Azim bin Othman. The defendant was charged with causing the death of the deceased by means of strangulation.
On 28th September 2025, an emergency call had been made to the Police Emergency line, 993, reporting that the dead body of a 23-year-old female had been found at the Defendant's residence in Berakas. Police investigations have identified the deceased, a Filipino national, as the wife of the Defendant. Upon the Prosecution's application, the Court ordered for the Defendant to be remanded for two weeks to allow the Royal Brunei Police Force to conduct further investigations. The Prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Khalillah binti Haji Hussin. The case has been fixed for further mention on 14th October 2025.
