An unauthorised woodworking factory in Kampong Mulaut, Mukim Sengkurong, has been ordered to cease operations and its illegal structure demolished for operating without planning permission.
The Department of Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Development, said the factory violated Section 23(2) of the Town and Country Planning Act, Chapter 248, by carrying out industrial activities and constructing structures without approval from the Planning Authority.
The factory was located in a residential area deemed unsuitable for industrial activities. The department said the site was also unorganised and posed safety hazards.
Following routine monitoring and inspection, the landowner complied with the Planning Authority’s order by stopping the woodworking activities, demolishing the unauthorised structure and clearing the area.
The department reminded the public to comply with planning laws, particularly Section 23 of the Town and Country Planning Act, which requires permission from the Planning Authority before carrying out development, subdivision or consolidation of land, or works in a conservation area.
Those found guilty of violating the provision may face a fine of up to BND200,000, with a further fine of up to BND10,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
