The Industry and Business Ecosystem Division through Weights and Measures Unit, SDT, Ministry of Finance and Economy, conducted enforcement operations on the seasonal festive stalls in conjunction with the 79th Royal Birthday Celebration. The surprise inspections were a routine action to ensure that any use of weighing and measuring instruments for commercial purposes is legal, accurate and registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983, Chapter 151.
The operation carried out in the Bandar Seri Begawan area, found 19 units of weighing machines to be non-compliant with the Weights and Measures Act 1983 Chapter 151 which is using unregistered instruments. Owners of weighing and measuring instruments who failed to comply with the Weights and Measures Act and regulations were issued Warning Notices, and required to report to the Weights and Measures Unit Office, SDT within seven working days from the date of the issued notice to rectify the matter.
Businesses and users of measuring and weighing instruments are advised to always comply with the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations, 1994 under section 3(2).
