JASTRe appoints six providers to strengthen sustainable waste management in RPN Rimba

The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) has appointed six waste collection service providers for the House-to-House Waste Collection Service Programme at the Kampong Rimba National Housing Scheme (RPN Rimba), in a move to establish a more systematic and sustainable household waste management system.

The providers were appointed following the signing of agreement documents at Dewan Betabur, Ministry of Development, Wednesday. Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development Dr Chin Wei Keh attended as the guest of honour.

Also present were senior ministry officers, village heads of the Kampong Rimba National Housing Scheme and representatives from the Village Consultative Councils.

In her welcoming remarks, Director of Environment, Parks and Recreation Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit said waste management was a key government priority, with JASTRe introducing a more organised and systematic approach to household waste collection in residential areas.

She said the programme was aimed at improving service efficiency and quality through a structured, subscription-based system with agreed service packages and standards.

Hajah Martinah described the signing as an important step towards strengthening collaboration between the government and service providers to deliver more efficient door-to-door waste collection.

She added that the initiative would support greater transparency, wider service coverage and more sustainable waste management practices.

The programme also aligns with the Ministry of Development’s Strategic Plan to improve service delivery standards and support the aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035.

Under the initiative, household waste collection at the housing scheme will be carried out through designated subscription packages, with the aim of improving operational efficiency while encouraging recycling and raising public awareness of responsible waste disposal.

JASTRe called on residents to cooperate with the service providers to ensure the programme’s success, stressing that collaboration between the government, service providers and the community was essential to maintaining environmental cleanliness and ensuring the long-term sustainability of waste management efforts.
