The Public Works Department (JKR) under the Ministry of Development on Saturday explained that the discoloured water still being experienced across several areas in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts is due to the quality of raw water drawn from the Tutong River, which contains high levels of organic matter and is naturally dark in colour.
The condition has adversely impacted the colour of treated water distributed to the public. In a statement, the JKR noted that between 8am and 2pm on September 4, 2026, the department received multiple complaints concerning water quality and low water pressure, for which follow-up actions are being actively implemented and scheduled according to the affected zones.
Presently, the Department of Water Services under the JKR continues to expedite the restoration of the water supply in the affected areas by carrying out flushing operations to remove discoloured water from the distribution network.
The Department of Water Services will maintain continuous monitoring of the situation and implement the necessary recovery and rectification measures until water supply conditions improve and stabilise.
Any significant alterations in water quality or disruptions to supply can be reported directly to the Department of Water Services through its established channels.
