Mohammad Abdul Raziq bin Haji Mohammad Saiful Rizal from Sekolah Mekar Kesuma and Nur Syifa Hasanah binti Mohammad Fikri from Sekolah Al-Faalah, Sungai Akar, emerged as champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories at the final of the 2026 Nationwide Primary Schools Jawi Reading Competition at the Lecture Hall of the Sports School on Saturday.
In the boy’s category, the runner-up was Muhammad Syafi Al-Muqtadir bin Haji Anifa Nazree from Tungku Primary School, Gadong and third place was Muhammad Areez Shaheem bin Adi Satria from Sekolah Cahaya Bina Insan.
For the girl’s category, in second place was Nur ‘Izzah As-Shafwah binti Haji Awang Mohamad Zul’Izzi from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School and third place went to Nur Izz Zarra Qaisarah binti Muriadi of Putat Primary School.
Organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE), through the Religious Activities Division, Department of Co-Curriculum Education, the competition was open to Years 4 and 5 students from government and private primary schools under the MoE. It was divided into two categories, the boys’ category and the girls’ category, with seven participants in each category.
The competition aimed to promote and cultivate the practice of Jawi reading among primary school students, enabling them to read materials written in Jawi script fluently. It also sought to encourage Jawi reading materials to become one of the preferred reading resources among students from an early age.
The competition aimed to build students’ confidence in reading in front of an audience, while enhancing their ability to read Jawi texts fluently.
Director of Private Education, MoE Sofian Erwan bin Mohamad was the guest of honour.
