The Enforcement Division of the Department of Manpower and Employment continued to conduct ‘Operasi Usai 223/2026’ in the surrounding area of Kampong Rimba on September 22, 2026 as part of efforts to enforce compliance with the Employment Act, Chapter 278.
An inspection of transportation-related activities uncovered eight offences under the Employment Act, Chapter 278, allegedly committed by employers against several local workers.
The offences included violations under Section 10, where workers were not provided with written contracts of service; Section 39(1), for failure to pay workers’ wages within seven days after the last day of the relevant wage period; and Section 39(2), involving failure to pay overtime wages.
Other offences discovered also included Section 63, concerning failure to provide rest days; Section 64, involving workers being required to work on rest days and gazetted public holidays without being paid in accordance with the provisions of the Act; Section 70, for failure to provide gazetted public holiday leave; Section 71, for failure to provide paid annual leave; and Section 72, for failure to provide certified sick leave.
Further investigations will be carried out into the alleged offences.
If found guilty, employers may be issued a compound fine of up to BND1,000 for each offence. The failure to pay the compound fine may subsequently be brought before the court.
The department reminded employers to continuously monitor and safeguard the workers’ welfare in accordance with the requirements of the Employment Act, Chapter 278.
