Keeping kuih heritage alive

As part of a continued initiative to help foster interest in preserving and maintaining Brunei’s traditional food and kuih heritage, particularly among schoolchildren, the Pintu Malim Primary School hosted a ‘Warisi Kuih Tradisi Kitani’ programme at the school’s Jongsarat Hall.

Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu Rasli bin Taram, officiated the programme’s activities, which included fun games that tested the students knowledge on Brunei’s traditional food heritage and enhanced their knowledge of traditional delicacies.

Six types of traditional food and kuih were showcased during the programme, including kelupis, sapit, penyaram, putu mayang and cacah, allowing students to learn more about Brunei’s traditional culinary heritage.

The initiative aimed to cultivate an appreciation and love for the nation’s cultural heritage from an early age, while encouraging students to help preserve these traditions for future generations.

Village heads of Kampong Sungai Besar, Kampong Serdang and Kampong Sungai Belukut, Lieutenant Colonel (Rtd) Haji Zaini bin Haji Damit, members of the Parents and Teachers Association committee, as well as parents and guardians also attended. – Daniel Lim
