Strengthening the community's understanding and appreciation of the benefits of charity based on the Maqasid Syariah framework were among the objectives of the Knowledge Convention Seminar 2025 held at the International Convention Centre, Berakas. With the theme 'The Country is Upheld With Charity', the seminar in conjunction with the Knowledge Convention 2025 was held through three main sessions.
On 20th October morning, the second session of the seminar carried the theme 'Charity as a Catalyst for National Development and Social Well-being.' Present was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Minister of Home Affairs. Three working papers were presented which, among other things, touched on the experience of the Council of Social Welfare in managing donations; the role of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as a charitable platform; and the function of JAPEM as a facilitator in channeling sedekah or alms.
Earlier, the first session titled 'Fadilat dan Keberkatan Sedekah dalam Maqasid Syariah' was held. Among those present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge. The presentation of three working papers among others highlighted fatwas on 'sedekah sunat' or commendable charity issued by the State Mufti Department; explanation on charity is not just an act of worship; and the virtues of charity.
