The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Brunei Darussalam successfully concluded the 2026 Korean Festival, held from 31 July to 2 August at Times Square Shopping Centre, according to a press release from the embassy.
The Opening Ceremony was officiated by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Awang Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, who attended as the Guest of Honour together with Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam Sun Nam-kook.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Sun highlighted the Korean Festival as a valuable opportunity for the people of Brunei to experience both the traditional and contemporary aspects of Korean culture. He noted that cultural exchange plays an important role in deepening mutual understanding and strengthening the longstanding friendship between Korea and Brunei Darussalam. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Government of Brunei Darussalam, Times Square Shopping Centre, participating organisations, performers, volunteers and all partners whose support contributed to the successful organisation of the festival.
The three-day festival featured a diverse programme reflecting the many facets of Korean culture. Visitors enjoyed K-pop performances, Taekwondo demonstrations, Korean cooking class, Hanbok experiences, Korean calligraphy, and a variety of interactive cultural workshops, showcasing both Korea’s rich cultural heritage and its contemporary cultural trends.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival was a Korean calligraphy class organised with the support of Sejong Academy. Led by Korean calligraphy instructor Yoo Hyun Tuk, the workshops introduced participants to the beauty of Hangul and traditional Korean calligraphy, offering Bruneian visitors a unique opportunity to experience one of Korea’s traditional art forms firsthand.
In addition to the cultural performances and workshops, visitors explored Korean food and product booths, experiencing a variety of Korean cuisine, lifestyle products and cultural exhibits throughout the festival.
The successful conclusion of the Korean Festival once again demonstrated the growing cultural exchanges between Korea and Brunei Darussalam. By bringing together traditional heritage, contemporary culture and interactive experiences, the festival provided a meaningful platform for fostering mutual understanding and further strengthening the friendship and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
