LegCo joins inter-parliamentary conference in Cambodia

Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim represented Brunei Darussalam at the 2nd Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, from August 26 to 28.

Jointly organised by Cambodia’s Senate and National Assembly, the conference was officiated by President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Held under the theme ‘Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Resolving Conflicts Peacefully’, the conference brought together parliamentary leaders and representatives as well as inter-parliamentary organisations from various countries.

Delegates exchanged views on strengthening peace and international cooperation as well as resolving conflicts through dialogue.

During the general debate, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace and shared prosperity.

Heads of delegation also attended an audience with King of Cambodia His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni at the Royal Palace on August 27.

They later paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on August 28.

The conference concluded with the adoption of the Phnom Penh Declaration, reaffirming commitments to international cooperation, respect for international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and negotiation.
