LegCo members join seminar in China

Legislative Council (LegCo) members Yang Berhormat Lau How Teck and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, participated in the 2026 Seminar for ASEAN Parliamentarians in Beijing, China recently.

The participation by the LegCo members also underscored the nation’s commitment to further strengthening the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Themed ‘Strengthening Exchanges Among Legislatures to Foster the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’, the seminar provided a platform for parliamentarians from ASEAN member states and China to discuss matters of common interest, including economic cooperation, development, agriculture and trade cooperation. The Brunei delegation shared the country’s experiences and exchanged views with fellow parliamentarians on issues of mutual interest.

The programme also included a study visit to Hainan Province, where the participants observed the region’s development, particularly in healthcare, technology, agriculture and trade.

Among the sites visited were the Hainan Free Trade Port, Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Wenchang Launch Station, and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences.

The seminar and study visits provided opportunities for the parliamentarians to deepen exchanges, broaden their understanding of regional development and explore areas of potential cooperation between ASEAN member states and China. – Daniel Lim
