Littering lands two with compound fines

Two individuals were issued compound fines of BND300 and BND100 by personnel from the Law Enforcement Section of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department after being caught littering in a public place, an offence under Section 12(1)(e) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Chapter 30).

The individual issued a BND300 compound fine was found disposing of a cigarette butt outside Gadong Fish Market on August 10.

In a separate incident, an individual was issued a BND100 compound fine on August 8 for littering outside Gadong Fish Market. The act on August 1 at 9.36am was captured and the individual identified through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage installed at the market.

The public, companies and business premises owners are reminded that maintaining environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility and that failure to do so constitutes an offence under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Chapter 30).

Upon conviction, offenders may face a maximum fine of BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.
