A local company and two individuals were issued with compound fines by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department through its Enforcement Section for violations of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12(1), during a recent operation, ‘Operasi Bersih 10/2026’.
The operation, targeting areas under the jurisdiction of the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, found a local company violating Section 12(1)(a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, by leaving used cabinets, boxes and paper rolls at the back of its premises located in Gadong. The company was issued a compound fine of BND500.
Meanwhile, an individual was issued a BND300 compound fine for violating Section 12(1)(e) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, for discarding cigarette butts and ashes in a public area in Batu Bersurat. Another individual was also issued a BND300 compound fine for a similar offence in the same area. In a separate incident, personnel of the Enforcement Section under the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department found a foreigner violating Section 12(1)(e) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, and he was issued a compound fine of BND500. He had left discarded items such as a couch and used tyres in open areas as well as along the roadside at Kampong Orang Kaya Besar Imas.
The public, companies and business premises owners are reminded that maintaining environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and that failure to do so constitutes an offence under the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Chapter 30).
Upon conviction, offenders may be liable to a maximum fine of BND30,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
The public, companies and business premises owners are advised not to throw, dump, spill or leave any form of rubbish, liquid or business waste in public places.
