Two local bodybuilders left the country to compete in the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship 2026 taking place in Bangkok, Thailand from September 22-28.
Abd Hadi bin Jalani will take part in the Men’s Athletics Physique up to 175-centimetre category, while Kamaluddin bin Yanau is contesting in the Men’s Athletics Physique up to 160-centimetre category. President of Brunei Darussalam National Bodybuilding and Fitness Association Mohamad Rahemi bin Haji Abdul Manaf, alongside Treasurer of Brunei Darussalam National Bodybuilding and Fitness Association Mohammad Abdul Aziz Ali Azim @ Rudy bin Ahmad, as well as supporters and family members were present at the Brunei International Airport.
This marks the first appearance for Abd Hadi in a World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation (WBPF)-sanctioned competition, while Kamaluddin will be competing in a WBPF event for the second time.
Preparations for the tournament spanned approximately three to four months.
The championship is an Asian-level competition bringing together athletes from more than 25 countries, with participating nations represented by top athletes selected to compete for their homelands.
The association expressed hope that the athletes will secure medals from the championship while inspiring others to compete under the banner of the WBPF.
The championship will also provide Bruneian athletes with exposure to the standard and quality of physique sports at the Asian level, supporting their progression towards the international stage.
