Local music scene takes centre stage in Kilanas

A showcase of local musical talent took centre stage during ‘Sound of Revolution: MPM Kilanas Edition’, held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 80th Birthday Celebration.

The event brought together music enthusiasts at the celebration stage area, creating a vibrant atmosphere through performances by local bands and artistes. The evening featured four local acts showcasing a variety of musical styles, ranging from alternative and progressive rock to acoustic performances.

Opening the show was Under Crimson Skies, a group of musicians who first met at the same music school. The band delivered acoustic performances highlighting their musical chemistry and stage presence.

Progressive rock group Kreazey Lions & The Stroller entertained the audience with their distinctive sound, shaped by the members’ diverse musical backgrounds since the band’s formation in 2022. Singer-songwriter and music producer NOL K also took to the stage, bringing influences from his musical journey that began during his studies at the London Music School in the 1990s.

He later formed London-based band Matahari, which performed alongside international acts including Bullet for My Valentine and Hundred Reasons.

Closing the night’s line-up was Secret Signal, a five-member band formed through a shared passion for music.

The group, which has released several singles and a full album, previously opened for Simple Plan during their Asia tour stop in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2023. The event formed part of the series of activities held to enliven the celebrations while fostering stronger connections between the community and Brunei’s local music scene.

Acting Assistant Brunei-Muara District Officer Mohammad Abdul Hadi bin Haji Mohammad Syarifuddin was the guest of honour.

Penghulu Mukim Kilanas and Acting Village Head of Kampong Tasek Meradun and Kampong Bunut Ahmad Hussaini bin Haji Mohsin was also present.
