MTIC drives digital transformation with 21 strategic projects

The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) is advancing digital transformation, transport connectivity and logistics development through 21 strategic projects under the National Development Plan (RKN) to support the achievement of Wawasan Brunei 2035.

Speaking during the second day of the Second Meeting of the 22nd Legislative Council (LegCo) session on Wednesday, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Mohammed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos expressed support for the motion on strengthening coordination towards achieving the national vision.

He said Brunei already has a clear development framework through the Economic, Social and Manpower Blueprints, which guide coordinated implementation under the Whole of Government and Whole of Nation approaches.

To support these priorities, MTIC has aligned its initiatives through the MTIC Strategic Plan 2030, Digital Brunei 2030, the Road Safety Action Plan 2030 and strategic plans across agencies under the ministry.

The minister said the initiatives are aimed at strengthening national resilience, driving economic growth and improving public well-being while ensuring the ministry remains aligned with the country’s long-term aspirations.

Developing digital talent remains a key priority through reskilling and upskilling programmes such as TechInspire Apprenticeship, TechXPLORE and Coding.BN. Meanwhile, the Maritime Cadetship Programme, launched in 2025, is producing internationally recognised Bruneian seafarers and maritime professionals to support the maritime sector.

He also highlighted efforts to strengthen digital governance through the Cyber Security Order 2023 and Personal Data Protection Order 2025 to ensure a secure and trusted digital ecosystem.

To support economic diversification, MTIC is enhancing the ICT and transport sectors by improving air and sea cargo connectivity through an integrated logistics network linking air, sea and land transport.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam is improving port efficiency through digitalisation, including the Maritime Single Window system, while infrastructure upgrades at Muara Port are expected to boost cargo handling capacity, transshipment activities and maritime business opportunities.

The Digital Brunei Council continues to promote digital adoption across government, businesses and society to accelerate the growth of the digital economy.

The minister said the ministry also remains committed to improving quality of life through safe, efficient and reliable transport services, alongside more accessible and user-centric digital public services.

Road safety initiatives under the Road Safety Action Plan 2030, including the “Share the Road” campaign and legislative enhancements, will continue to improve road safety nationwide.

Looking ahead, MTIC will focus on three priorities: strengthening transport systems and cybersecurity, enhancing public service delivery through digitalisation, and accelerating infrastructure projects under the RKN.

Key projects include modernising government digital systems, upgrading facilities at Brunei International Airport and developing smarter public transport services to improve efficiency and customer experience.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Mohammed Riza said digital transformation is no longer optional but a key driver of Wawasan Brunei 2035, adding that success depends on close collaboration among the government, private sector, academia and the wider community.

He said coordinated leadership under the newly appointed Coordinating Ministers would help accelerate implementation, strengthen national competitiveness and deliver tangible benefits to the people.
