His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, underscored the importance of maintaining a strong defence capability as a national priority amid an increasingly uncertain regional and international security landscape, in a titah during the Parade Ceremony of the Special Forces Regiment, Royal Brunei Armed Forces (SFR RBAF) Golden Jubilee Celebration on Wednesday.

The updated 2026 Defence White Paper, His Majesty said, “has emphasised that the regional and international security landscape is becoming increasingly uncertain. As a sovereign nation, Brunei Darussalam cannot afford to take the importance of maintaining a strong military capability lightly. Alongside diplomatic strength, a robust defence system must also remain a national priority.”

His Majesty also shared that His Majesty would like SFR RBAF to seize opportunities from its diplomatic relationships with other countries to adopt the latest military technologies.

His Majesty also expressed, “I am also proud of the SFR RBAF’s participation in international special forces competitions. Through these competitions, I hope SFR RBAF will continue to develop its capabilities on par with international special forces.”

SFR RBAF, His Majesty described, “is a strategic defence asset of the nation. It must be preserved and upheld with the utmost sincerity and integrity, as reflected in the Special Forces Regiment oath that was recited earlier. I would like to see the SFR RBAF continue to strengthen cooperation with the special forces of friendly countries through defence diplomacy.”

Through joint exercises and the sharing of the latest special operations skills and expertise, His Majesty is confident that the SFR RBAF will maintain a consistently high level of combat proficiency.

With regard to enhancing special operations capabilities, His Majesty also took  note of the inauguration of the new and modern SFR RBAF Close Quarter Battle (CQB) Complex. This facility will undoubtedly further enhance the close-quarter combat skills of SFR RBAF personnel through a range of challenging training scenarios, in line with the evolving nature of combat in special operations.

His Majesty also encouraged the Special Forces Regiment to always integrate the use of artificial intelligence. Such measure is important to further strengthen capabilities as well as skills of special operation.

His Majesty urged all members of the Special Forces Regiment to continue uphold discipline and work ethic, carrying out their duties with loyalty and trustworthy.

His Majesty also reminded all members of the Special Forces Regiment not to get involved in any criminal activity and negative elements that can tarnish the image and reputation of the Special Forces Regiment and Royal Brunei Armed Forces as a whole.

Earlier in the titah, His Majesty announced the conferment of the SFR RBAF Golden Jubilee Medal upon all serving members of the Special Forces Regiment.
