A 24-year-old Malaysian woman died in a fatal road accident Wednesday morning at KM 5600, Jalan Rasau-Sungai Tujoh, Kuala Belait.
According to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), the Kuala Belait Police Station received a report from a member of the public at approximately 7.20am regarding a road accident and vehicle fire.
The accident involved two vehicles travelling in opposite directions – a compact SUV and a hatchback.
The 48-year-old male driver of the SUV, a permanent resident, sustained minor injuries. He was found to have a valid driving licence and vehicle licence.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old female driver of the hatchback, a Malaysian national, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. She was found to have a valid driving licence, while the vehicle licence had expired.
Initial findings indicated that the driver of the hatchback vehicle is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while driving, resulting in the accident. However, the RBPF is still conducting investigations to determine the actual cause of the incident.
In light of the accident, road users are advised to always comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and practise safe and responsible driving for their own safety and that of other road users.
Road users are also advised to exercise greater caution when travelling along Jalan Rasau-Sungai Tujoh, as road repair works are currently being carried out in the area. They are also reminded to observe warning signs and safety instructions, and adjust their vehicle speed according to road conditions.
A moment of carelessness on the road can have serious consequences and cost lives.
