Malaysian Police have detained a man believed to have been driving a Brunei-registered four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle involved in a road accident near the Emart Tudan traffic light junction on Saturday night, the Borneo Post reported.
Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the man, who is in his 30s and whose nationality was not disclosed, was detained and the vehicle impounded at the Sungai Tujoh border area with assistance from the Royal Brunei Police Force’s Belait District Police.
The accident occurred at about 8.35pm when the driver allegedly ran a red light before colliding with a motorcycle ridden by a woman in her 30s.
“The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and subsequently received treatment at a private clinic,” Mohd Farhan said in a statement Sunday.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without due care and consideration.
The suspect and the 4WD have since been brought to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Miri District Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Police also advised the public against speculating or circulating unverified information about the incident.
