Man fined for illegal rubbish dumping

A local man was slapped with a compound fine of BND100 by the enforcement unit of Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department for disposing rubbish in a public parking space along Jalan Residency nearby to Sungai Lampai.

The disposal of rubbish in public areas is a violation under the Miscellaneous Offences Act Chapter 30 Section 12 (1).

The offender was given seven days to settle the compound fine, after which the failure to pay may result in the company being prosecuted in court. Upon conviction, the offender may face a fine not less than BND2,000 and not exceeding BND10,000.

For a second or subsequent offence, the penalty increases to not less than BND10,000 and not exceeding BND30,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

The Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department would like to remind the public, construction companies and owners of commercial premises to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose rubbish in public areas.
