Message in conjunction with World Mental Health Day 2025

The theme for this year's World Mental Health Day, 'Access to Mental Health Services When Facing Disasters and Emergencies', is a call to emphasize the importance and priority of mental health in the formulation of every national emergency action plan. In a message in conjunction with the World Mental Health Day Celebration, the Minister of Health stressed the need to ensure the existence of comprehensive mental health and psycho-social support with trained workforce and clear guidelines in the national disaster risk reduction strategy. Aside from that, it is important to foster a culture of empathy, care and openness so that people feel safe to seek help without fear of judgment and discrimination, while encouraging open conversations about mental health.

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar stated that the Ministry of Health together with stakeholders has provided the 'Psychological First Aid' Training programme and the 'Mental Health First Aid' Training programme to reduce symptoms of psychological stress and assist in healthy recovery, after experiencing challenges such as natural disasters, emergencies or personal crises. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has held a Basic Mental Health Training Course for community leaders. It is hoped that the skills learned by community leaders and guides can be used to provide support and assistance to those in need, including being always prepared and ready to help in emergency or disaster situations.

His Majesty's Government through the Ministry of Health, with the support of other Ministries and stakeholders such as relevant NGOs is committed to strengthening mental health infrastructure and providing better services to the people and residents during crisis situations. The Government is also committed to building a more resilient society; one that can not only recover from crises but also grow stronger through mutual support and understanding.
