Mosque tour fosters understanding of Islamic practices

The Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) organised the second edition of the Masjid Tour Programme for 1448H/2026M at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque yesterday, aimed at providing deeper exposure to Islamic teachings and showcasing the Islamic way of life in Brunei Darussalam, particularly to non-Muslim visitors.

The tour served as one of the centre’s dakwah methodologies and initiatives to introduce mosques as potential Islamic tourism attractions in Brunei Darussalam for both Muslim and non-Muslim visitors from within and outside the country. Among the mosques frequently visited by tourists are Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah. The programme also sought to encourage youth to confidently share information about mosques in an engaging, accurate and effective manner.

It provided visitors with an opportunity to learn more about mosques, understand the forms of worship practised by Muslims, and engage directly with programme facilitators to ask questions and address misconceptions about Islam.

The programme began with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a symbolic signing on a programme signboard to mark the official launch.

The visitors were taken on a guided tour of the mosque, including the main prayer hall and ablution area, as well as several specially prepared educational corners.

These included the Kid’s Corner, Hijab and Sarong Corner, Jawi Corner, Khat Corner, Al-Quran Corner, ‘Spoken Barakah: Hidden Words We Say’ Corner, Sunnah Corner and Find the Kiblat Corner.

The visitors gained a deeper insight into the functions of a mosque, Islamic practices and the daily lives of Muslims, while also having the opportunity to interact directly with the programme facilitators. The initiative is hoped to continue serving as an effective platform for dakwah by introducing Islam in a more open, welcoming and informative manner, particularly to the non-Muslim community.

The programme was organised through the Youth Religious Programme Secretariat and jointly conducted by Belia Muallaf As-Syahadah and the Da’wah Development Division (Special Da’wah) of the PDI with the support of the Mosque Affairs Department and Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
