Air quality nationwide remained at a moderate level in the latest Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings issued by Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) under the Ministry of Development at 4pm yesterday, in its continuous efforts to monitor the haze situation in the country.
According to the PSI readings, Brunei-Muara District recorded a moderate air quality level with a PSI reading of 65, while Belait District also maintained a moderate air quality level with a reading of 56.
Meanwhile, Temburong District registered a reading of 60 to stay at a moderate air quality level, and Tutong District recorded a reading of 65, also in the moderate band.
Since September 1, 2026 at 2pm, air quality reporting in Brunei Darussalam has been enhanced by incorporating PM2.5 concentrations into the calculation and reporting of the PSI.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines PM2.5 as fine suspended particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. PM2.5 can penetrate deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially causing adverse effects on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
The department will continue to closely monitor air quality across Brunei Darussalam and provide PSI updates five times daily during the hazy period.
The Ministry of Health (MoH) advised the public that when the PSI reading is within the moderate range of 51 to 100, outdoor activities may proceed as usual.
However, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are advised to reduce strenuous or prolonged outdoor physical activity, while individuals with heart or lung conditions are advised to limit such activities.
Those experiencing persistent or worsening symptoms – such as coughing, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or breathing difficulties – are urged to seek medical attention at nearby clinics or health centres.
Members of the public are also advised to refer to health advisories issued by the MoH.
The public is urged to contact the Fire and Rescue Department via the 995 emergency hotline for any incidences of bush and forest fires.
Meanwhile, the public should refrain from carrying out open burning activities and any actions that could worsen haze conditions during the dry period.
Members of the public may also contact Darussalam Line 123 to lodge complaints regarding open burning activities or to seek health information and advice.
