Recipients of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Government Scholarships under ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Scholarship Scheme and the Overseas Scholarship Scheme, as well as the Special Scholarship Scheme for secondary and pre-university education at Jerudong International School (JIS) and International School Brunei (ISB), for the 2026/2027 academic session, received their scholarships yesterday.
A total of three students received His Majesty’s Government Scholarship under ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ Scholarship Scheme to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master’s degrees, while 36 students received scholarships under the Overseas Scholarship Scheme at the Bachelor’s degree level.
Meanwhile, 18 students at the secondary level and 20 students at the pre-university level were awarded His Majesty’s Government Scholarships under the Special Scholarship Scheme to pursue their studies at international schools.
Organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE), the ceremony saw Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the guest of honour, presenting the scholarships. Deputy Minister of Education Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal was also in attendance.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Kesyukuran led by Chief Scholarship and Welfare Officer at the Department of Scholarship Management Haji Raminey bin Haji Salleh. This was followed by a welcoming speech by Acting Director of the Department of Scholarship Management Rosimah Sumaimah binti Haji Matassim, in her capacity as chairperson of the ceremony.
Prior to the award presentation ceremony, an agreement signing ceremony was held for three recipients of ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ Scholarship Scheme and 36 recipients of His Majesty’s Government Scholarship under the Overseas Scholarship Scheme for undergraduate studies for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad witnessed the signing as the guest of honour.
Signing on behalf of His Majesty’s Government were Vice-Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle for the ‘The Chancellor’s Scholar’ Scholarship Scheme, and the acting director of the Department of Scholarship Management for the Overseas Scholarship Scheme.
Each scholarship recipient signed their agreement alongside two guarantors.
