Nine participants competed in the finals of the Al-Quran reading and surah memorisation competition yesterday at the Kampong Bukit Sawat Recreational Park.
Organised by the Village Consultative Council (MPK) of Kampong Bukit Sawat in conjunction with Carnival Bukit Sawat, the competition provided opportunities for participants of all ages to showcase their Al-Quran recitation and surah memorisation skills whilst fostering a deeper understanding and internalisation of Al-Quran verses.
Acting Head of Religious Officers in the Belait District Awang Noor Suffian bin Haji Yahya was the guest of honour to witness the finals and presented prizes to the top three winners in each category. He was welcomed by Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman alongside Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann.
In the Children category, Rokiah binti Azmi secured first place, followed by Hannan Najwa binti Mohamad Fauziee in second and Raihanah Batrishya binti Rohime in third. In the Adult category, Siti Rabiatul Alawiyah binti Ramlee claimed top honours, with Maimuna Zainiyah taking second place and Muhammad Azim bin Zaini finishing third.
For the Open Muallaf category, Haji Muhammad Amiruldinie bin Muhammad Nasiruddin emerged as champion, followed by Mohammad Ali Suffian bin Muhd Hamdan in second place.
In the Open Tilawah category, Rosilawaty Morni secured first place, followed by Datin Hajah Hazizah binti Haji Adam in second and Hajah Mariam binti Latip in third. – Daniel Lim
