For the past two decades, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Health, has taken steps to overcome Non-Communicable Diseases, NCDs through the Multi-Sectoral National Action Plan on the Prevention and Control of NCDs. Among them is increasing access to essential medicines. The matter was among those shared by the Minister of Health at the Inauguration of the International Non-Communicable Diseases Exhibition and Conference 2025. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar also explained that various actions have been implemented including aspects of prevention, early detection, treatment and palliative care including free cancer screening services for local citizens. However, the country needs to do more and this conference is a call for action from all parties. The event took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, 11th October morning.
Doctor Dayang Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Gharif, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, in her speech, said that the conference is a testament to the country's commitment to health equity, innovation and collaboration. The event aims to strengthen collaboration between the community and health providers in addressing the challenges of non-communicable diseases as well as strengthen the country's commitment to creating a healthier and more resilient society.
