Three officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) participated in NextGen 2026 – Islamic Youth Symposium and Harmony Games 2026 in Singapore from September 11-14, 2026.
Representing Brunei Darussalam were Religious Development Officer at the Media (Multimedia) Division of the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) Muhamad Abdul Haziq bin Hanafi, Religious Development Officer at the Research and Publication (Academic Research) Division of PDI Dr Norhazerah binti Baha, and Religious Education Officer at the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College Siti Musfirah binti Misli.
Organised by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the programme forms part of efforts to nurture a knowledgeable, practising, and competitive Muslim youth generation, in line with the MABIMS Strategic Plan to empower Muslim youth across the region.
NextGen 2026 comprised two main components: the Islamic Youth Symposium and Harmony Games 2026.
Held on September 12, 2026, at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, the Islamic Youth Symposium featured sessions focusing on career development and faith, including a keynote address, dialogue sessions, career and faith reflections, the launch of the Youth Meets Career guidebook, and a panel discussion titled ‘Faith in the Field: Integrating Faith and Professional Life’.
The symposium also featured the Career Takeoff Marketplace, offering career exhibitions, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
Participants attended a keynote address by Chairman of AMP and member of the Fatwa Committee Fathurrahman Haji M Dawoed, alongside a panel discussion featuring young Muslim professionals, including Dr Ashraf Yusoff.
Meanwhile, Harmony Games 2026, held on September 13, 2026, at the Community Auditorium, One Tampines Hub, featured activities centred on sports, health, and community engagement. Organised jointly by MUIS and the Singapore Taoist Federation, the community sporting event promoted ukhuwah, harmony, and the spirit of rahmatan lil ‘alamin, which are among the core values underpinning MABIMS.
Participants also interacted with Minister for Community, Culture and Youth David Neo and attending community representatives.
The participation of the MoRA officers provided opportunities to gain insights and exchange views on youth development, strengthening faith-based values and professional life, while expanding cooperation networks among MABIMS member countries.
The initiative was coordinated by the MABIMS Secretariat of Brunei Darussalam as part of its role in supporting and coordinating Brunei Darussalam’s involvement in programmes under the MABIMS Strategic Plan.
