A total of 69 young badminton players from across the country and neighbouring Sarawak, showcased their talents and sportsmanship at the BSRC Junior Open Tournament 2026, at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club’s (BSRC) Badminton Hall recently.
In the under-16 girls’ doubles, Jaslene Lim Yu Qin and Shalene Lim Yu Han won first, followed by Edrea Charysse Chong @ Chong Hyunn Feng and Rariee Pong Xue Ching in second.
Nursyadnidamia Amani binti Suhaimi and Nurul Shatiqah binti Jamali @ Atiqah, together with Noor Rayhanaa binti Mohammad Sofian and Nur Audra Na’lla binti Mohamad Fadzli, shared third place.
The under-16 boys’ doubles saw Bobby Ferguson Chong @ Chong Choon Wenn and Muhammad Syazri bin Sumardi take first place, with Frederick Phung Shang Wen and Yii Hao Bing in second. Prathmesh Laxman Magar and Syed Redza bin Haji Syed Rezan, together with Md Shahir bin Hamdan and Muhammad Asyraaf Danial bin Jeffri, shared third place.
In the under-16 girls’ singles, Jaslene Lim Yu Qin and Shalene Lim Yu Han were placed first and second, while Nur Aisyah Alisha binti Khairul Anwar and Viealisha Aliya binti Ahmad Fadil-lah shared third place.
In the under-16 boys’ singles, Yii Hao Bing and Bobby Ferguson Chong @ Chong Choon Wenn were placed first and second, while Md Shahir bin Hamdan and Muhammad Rayyan Hakim Sia shared third place.
There were no competing players in the under-12 girls’ doubles, while the under-12 boys’ doubles saw Ahmad Aidil Ashraf bin Ahmad Fadillah and Lo Jun Rong winning first place, followed by Lim Ren Jun and Shayn Lim. Arjun Singh Bisht and Karan Singh Bisht, along with Callum Fong Yew Juin and Kingsley Ang, sharing third place.
Noor Rayhanaa binti Mohammad Sofian won the under-12 girls’ singles, followed by Swarali Laxman Magar, while Nur Audra Na’Ila Binti Mohamad Fadzli and Edrea Charysse Chong @ Chong Hyunn Feng sharing third place.
Lim Ren Jun was named winner of the under-12 boys’ singles, followed by Ahmad Aidil Ashraf bin Ahmad Fadillah, while Noah Ting Xiang Yew and Karan Singh Bisht shared third place.
Organised by the BSRC Badminton Section in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (BNBA), the two-day tournament featured under-12 and under-16 categories for boys and girls, with each age group further divided into singles and doubles events.
The tournament formed part of a wider collaboration between BSRC Badminton and BNBA to support the development of badminton among junior players, as well as officials and technical personnel.
The BSRC Junior Open Tournament 2026 reflects the commitment of BSRC Badminton and BNBA towards developing young badminton players through meaningful competitive opportunities.
Alongside the junior tournament, BNBA conducted the practical assessment for its National Umpire Training Course, involving six participants.
The assessment provided participants with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and officiating skills in an actual tournament environment under practical match conditions.
The inclusion of the umpire assessment alongside the junior tournament created a development opportunity for both players and officials, contributing to the strengthening of the badminton technical pathway nationwide.
BSRC Head of Admin Azmi Yusran bin Haji Jawawi and Sports Secretary Haji Fakhurrazi bin Haji Damit presented the prizes.
