More than 700 youths from the public and private sectors, higher education institutions, secondary schools and youth and sports organisations gathered for the Belia Berselawat Programme at the Youth Centre’s Riadah Hall in the capital Thursday.
Held in conjunction with the 21st National Youth Day 2026 and Maulidur Rasul 1448H celebrations, the programme was attended by Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohammad Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha.
The programme began with the recitation of Niat Sayyidul Istighfar and Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by Dikir Maulud led by representatives of local mosque youth groups.
A forum titled Selawat Penyejuk Jiwa Belia featured Islamic Dakwah Centre speaker Ustaz Isham bin Awang Ismail, 2018 Language Ambassador Awang Haji Abdul Rashid bin Awang Haji Damit and certified counsellor Dayang Nurul Hazirah binti Haji Jahari. It was moderated by UNISSA Alumni Association president Awang Abdul Mujib bin Awang Sh’minan.
The gathering also featured recitations of Selawat Tafrijiyyah (An Naariyah), Selawat Badriyah, Selawat An-Nuur, Selawat Asy-Syifa and Selawat Al-Fatih, as well as tausyeh performances by Dhafwatul ‘Aisy from Bangar’s Utama Mohd Salleh Mosque and Firqah An-Naim from An-Naim Mosque in Perpindahan Kampong Mengkubau.
The Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam was recited at the event.
Organised by the Youth and Sports Department under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with Belia Masjid Senegara and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the programme aimed to strengthen youths’ identity and cultivate noble character through selawat.
It also provided a platform for the Muslim community, particularly youths, to come together in reciting selawat upon Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
