The harmonious special performance in the Belait District featuring 435 participants dazzled the main stage at the Municipal Field yesterday, held as part of the 80th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Held as part of the get-together ceremony in the Belait District, the special performance was centred on the theme ‘Raja Terbilang, Rakyat Gemilang’ (A Distinguished Monarch, An Outstanding People). The performance aimed to highlight the leadership and vision of His Majesty in guiding Brunei Darussalam towards the goals of Brunei Vision 2035, while reflecting the adherence of the nation to the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy, which underpins the governance, culture, and social development of the country.
Performance Director and Head of Pekan Kuala Belait ‘B’ Mohammad Sufrizal bin Haji Hamdan explained how the performance portrays His Majesty as a visionary leader committed to ensuring the prosperity, stability, and well-being of the people of the nation.
He added that the presentation also emphasises the qualities of His Majesty as a just, compassionate, and responsible monarch who places great importance on the welfare of the rakyat and frequently visits communities and development projects across the country to monitor national progress personally. The performance highlighted the close bond between the Sultan and the people of Brunei, portraying His Majesty as a leader who inspires the younger generation through his dedication, wisdom, and people-centred leadership.
It also reflected the achievements of the nation in religious development, education, economic stability, and overall national progress under the reign of His Majesty, contributing to the recognition and respect of Brunei internationally.
The 15-minute performance combined contemporary choreography with dramatic performances and dance formations with elements of traditional and modern artistic expression, while also incorporating both graceful and dynamic elements which symbolise the welcome and loyalty of the people to His Majesty.
The performance also depicted the youth of the nation as energetic, proactive, progressive, and forward-looking, expressing their appreciation for the fair and wise leadership of His Majesty.
The vibrant performance was accompanied by live musical performances featuring a combination of traditional and modern instruments, along with a choir to enhance the performers’ choreography.
This culminated in the grand finale, with the specially composed theme song, sharing the same name as the theme, taking centre stage, celebrating the birthday of His Majesty in a festive atmosphere. – Daniel Lim
